From Complaint to Compliance

NovoGov follows a code case from the first complaint through to resolution, so nothing slips through the cracks and every step is documented in one place.

  1. Intake. A resident reports a violation through the citizen portal, or your staff logs it. Through the Citizen Request Management integration, complaints route straight to your code enforcement dashboard.
  2. Open and locate the case. Each complaint becomes a case. Geo-code the incident, pull parcel information, and see it on the map, with the case fields you set up in the Custom Form Designer.
  3. Field inspection. An officer inspects from a phone or tablet, records findings on a custom inspection form, and attaches photos from the field.
  4. Notice of violation. Auto-generate the violation letter with mail merge, then print or email it.
  5. Follow-up and paper trail. Log every activity, from inspections done to warnings issued to follow-up visits, so the case builds a complete history.
  6. Resolution and records. Close the case with a complete record of everything that happened, from the first complaint to the final inspection.
  7. Report. Custom reports show open cases, status, and totals, and you can view cases on the map.

Code Enforcement Software FAQ

What is code enforcement software?

Code enforcement software is a system local governments use to take in complaints, run inspections, issue violation notices, and keep a record of each case from first report to resolution. NovoGov does this on one configurable platform your team can use from the office or the field.

How does NovoGov handle citizen complaints?

Residents can submit code violation complaints through a citizen portal, and NovoGov also integrates with our Citizen Request Management module so complaints route to your code enforcement dashboard for review.

Can code enforcement officers work in the field on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Officers can manage and update inspections and violations from a phone or tablet, geo-code incidents, view parcel information, and attach photos from the field.

Can NovoGov automatically generate violation letters and notices?

Yes. NovoGov can auto-generate violation letters with mail merge and print or email them, so notices go out faster and stay consistent.

Does it map violations and pull parcel information?

Yes. NovoGov maps complaints and inspections, relates GIS parcel information, and lets you view violations on a map. It integrates with Esri ArcGIS so your data stays aligned with your GIS.

Can NovoGov be set up for our specific violation types and workflow?

NovoGov is configurable and no-code, so your team can build the custom forms, fields, and reports your process needs for the violation types you track, from nuisance and property maintenance to blight. Walk us through your workflow in a demo and we will show you how it is set up.

Is NovoGov built for small and mid-sized cities and counties?

Yes. NovoGov is built for small and mid-sized cities and counties, so a small code enforcement team can run it without a large IT department.

Code Enforcement in Action: City of Edgewood, FL

The City of Edgewood, FL, a community of just under 3,000 near Orlando, used to run code enforcement through informal emails and phone calls, where reported violations were sometimes misplaced or forgotten. After moving to NovoGov with a resident portal, residents now submit code enforcement issues online, the city tracks them in one place, and communication with residents improved. Code enforcement there is handled by Stacey Salemi, the city’s Code Compliance Officer.
